Stories of St Leonards
This was the challenge......
Yes, I know, I should have seen it coming. No sooner had we gone to press with
‘Visions of Hastings’ than people started popping up and saying, “but what about St
Leonards?” – I wondered why all the competition entries seemed to focus on the south and east of what I think of as ‘our town’. Thank goodness for Joe Fearn and his vision of Marine Court (see page 56 of ‘Visions of Hastings’)
But okay, okay. I take up your gauntlet. I know there are writers, artists and photographers over there in sunny St Leonards – and if it’s anything like Hastings, there are also a lot of people who don’t call themselves writers, artists or photographers but who could nevertheless come up with some interesting stories and pictures about their favourite places.
So here’s the challenge: if you would like to see a companion book for ‘Visions of Hastings’, celebrating aspects of the past, present or future of
St Leonards, you are invited to send us your pictures, stories, poems or articles. If we receive enough material for a book by
5th October, then we’ll celebrate Hastings Week 2011 by presenting £100 to the creator of the most interesting and unusual entry, and start work on an Earlyworks Press book of St
Leonards, written by and for the people of St Leonards (as long as you let Hastings people read it too.)
All the best,
Kay (editor, Earlyworks Press)
